Baffles are used to eliminate the need for recovery wadding in a model rocket. To install one in a new rocket that uses a coupler, simply install the assembled baffle kit instead of the coupler. For existing rockets, you may still be able to install a baffle, depending on where the shock cord was initially installed. You'd want to glue the assembled baffle inside the airframe, towards the nose cone. Make sure you leave enough room for parachute, shock cord, and nose cone shoulder. Baffles with paper discs These kits come with pressed paper discs. Don't be fooled by the word "paper", these are high quality, durable parts.
Baffle kits with wooden discs Manufactured by Starlight Model Rockets, these baffles come with laser-cut plywood wooden discs for optimal strength and durability.
There are no instructions for these baffles. If you haven't build ejection baffle kits before, it's really quite simple. Start by gluing one disc into one end of the tube with wood glue. Place it at the very end of the tube. Let the glue dry completely. The next part is key, place the second disc into the other end of the tube. Don't use glue just yet. Align the second disc so that the openings in the baffle discs do not align. If you hold the assembly up to your eye, you should not be able to see through the tube. You should see nothing but the two baffle discs. Once you're satisfied with the alignment, glue the second disc into the other end of the tube. Glue it at the end of this side of the tube and let the glue dry completely.
