Illustrated Assembly Instructions For Model Rocket Streamer

These instructions are for the competition streamers for sale in this store.

Part list

Each mylar streamer kit includes the following parts : instruction sheet, precut Mylar streamer material, cotton cord, sheet with two tape discs, and a tape strip.

These streamers can be used for competition (NAR streamer duration) and every-day fun flying. The streamers can be assembled differently, based on use. Parts are included for both.

Assembly instructions for non-competition use

Attach tape disc to streamer   Tape Disc

Attach one of the tape discs to the middle of a narrow end of the Mylar material.

Model Rocket Streamer Assembly   Create a hole

Use a hole punch to create a hole in the middle of the tape disc.

Flip over the streamer and attach the second tape disc over the hole on the other side.

Tie cord to streamer   Attach cord

Loop the cotton cord through the hole in the streamer and tie a double knot.

A pencil, or similar, can be used when tying the knot. This helps ensure the loop doesn't get too tight, causing it to cut into the streamer material.

Parachute Assembly   Dot of glue

Put a dot of white glue on the knot. This will help keep the loop from tightening during use.

If the loop tightens when the model rocket streamer deploys, it could cut into the Mylar and damage it. Gluing the knot helps prevent this.

Once the glue sets, tie the open end of the cotton cord to the nose cone (or shock cord) of your model rocket.

Instructions for competition flying

Competitors usually have their own unique tricks and theories as to what the best assembly method is. The instructions below will illustrate two of those techniques.

Knot Or Loop   Loop or knot

Start by tying a loop (left) or one or more knots (right) into the cotton cord.

Side   Attachment option 1

Place the loop (or knot) in corner of a narrow end of the Mylar material.

Trim the tape strip to size, remove the backing and tape it over the cord.

Bottom   Attachment option 2

Place the end of the cord with the knot/loop parallel with a narrow end of the Mylar streamer material.

Remove the backing from the tape strip and tape it over the cord.

Note that there are may other attachment methods, these are not the only valid methods of competition streamer assembly.

Packing the streamer

Roll the streamer around a pencil or other round object. Wrap the cotton cord around the streamer.

Carefully remove the pencil. If the streamer was rolled around the pencil too tightly, it may have hard to remove the pencil. If this is the case, start over and roll the streamer more losely around the pencil.

Insert the rolled streamer into your model rocket, tied to the nose cone or shock cord (as indicated earlier).
